The Luthierist A podcast all about guitar making, hosted by Paul Rhoney.

April 15, 2017

Holy cats, that's a long title for an episode, but Sully's guests for this week have a lot of things going on. Rob's a grpahic designer by trade, but that hasn't kept him from opening a guitar themed brew pub, building his brand with Hi-Tone Guitars, or building challenging new guitars for The Wildflower Festival each spring. Paul can help your pet (he's an emergency veteranarian), as well as build you something under his brand, Black Watch Musical Instruments, as well as CNC inlay services. They both work together in Guys Building Guitars Club, which meets monthly at the Rockler in Richardson, TX.

This week, Sully chats with Bobby Smith of RJS Amplification. They chat about amps (duh), and his approach to helping musicians find the tone they're looking for. Bobby has a long history in the industry, and they talk about his time at Charvel/Jackson, BC Rich, Valley Arts, Tom Anderson Guitarworks, and Grosh. Bobby's also got a pretty sweet story about that time he auditioned for Ozzy's band.

Still haven't heard enough about NAMM? Perfect! Join Sully, Doug Kauer, and Perry Ormsby for a pretty thorough recap of what it was like for each of us. Brief takeaways: Dan Erlewine is a good dude. John Suhr is a good dude. And Pat Sanger juuuuuuuuust might be trying to make Doug diabetic!
